Who Are We?

C*A*T*S was founded in 1999 to provide children of all ages with the opportunity to learn about the many aspects of theatre. Skills in acting, singing and dancing are developed and used, not only in  weekly workshops, but also in regular public performances.

.
What Is Our Philosophy?

Children join C*A*T*S for very different reasons: some because they are born performers who need a vehicle for their talents, others because they are shy and need to build on their self-confidence. We welcome both into a warm, friendly and supportive environment. Our sessions are relaxed and fun and our results are highly professional. The children give their best because they are enjoying what they are doing and building a love and respect for the theatre. They learn to work as a team, with each member of the team being individually important.

.
Who Runs The Show?

C*A*T*S was founded by Caroline Petherbridge BA (HONS) ED.QTS - a primary school and drama teacher. She is partnered by Simon Mawdsley, a playwright and director whose plays have been performed locally in Harlow, and also in London. Between them, Caroline and Simon are able to offer many years of experience in producing and directing productions, and running local theatre companies. They are also able to provide children with the opportunity to work with some of the best local actors and technicians. The children benefit greatly from this, and love to work with these talented adults; many of whom have become committed supporters of C*A*T*S and the children.

What Else Do We Offer?

C*A*T*S offers tuition of the LAMDA syllabus: examinations in the dramatic arts for all ages and ability levels. From the age of four and above, children can take examinations in 'poetry and prose' and 'acting' in order to build on their performance skills and gain grade passes from The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Tuition times are separate to Sunday Sessions.

CATS act as agents for the children's video and audio company, CYP. All CATS members, therefore, have the opportunity to be selected for professional performing jobs including acting, singing, voice-overs and presenting. Products starring CATS children are available in many major highstreet stores. See our page on 'Video filming and Recording Sessions' for more information.

Where Are We Based?

C*A*T*S are resident at The Playhouse, Harlow. Sessions are run on Sunday Afternoon, at different times depending on the age of the child.
