Class Act Theatre School (CATS) was started in 1990 by Caroline Petherbridge BA(HONS) Ed. QTS when she was a primary school teacher. Knowing she was heavily involved in local amateur dramatics, parents came to her and requested a drama club where their children would feel secure and confident in learning to perform in a warm and friendly environment. Caroline brought her husband and published playwright, Simon Mawdsley on board, and CATS was born.
Caroline and Simon pride themselves on the professional standard of the regular public performances that CATS produce, whilst at the same time ensuring that the most important thing is the happiness of their members. The golden rule is that if the children are enjoying themselves, and know that are achieving great standards, then all is well!
CATS has a family atmosphere, in which the older members are encouraged to help the younger ones and work together as a team. With a history of fantastic productions and wonderful reviews, children who attend CATS often stay for over ten years. Caroline and Simon are proud of their high standards and the feeling of belonging that the children at CATS develop.
Children at CATS learn stage skills in acting, dancing, singing and musical theatre and have the added opportunity to be part of regular public performances. Members also have the opportunity to take their acting grades, as CATS offer LAMDA tuition (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art).
